I am trying to find plans on how to build a reptile cage for my Iguana?

Answers:
I have actually built a cage for my foot iguana and it is working out pretty well. I got the directions online. It cost me about 30 dollars for the supplies. It also depends on big your iguana is right now. My boyfriend also made a cage for our baby iguana out of wood and screen. the big iguana's cage is made out of PVC piping and plastic garden fencing. Here is the site I used to build my Iguana's cage. The nic eabout it is I can take apart and fold it up and carry it outside to put her in it so she can get some sun during the nice days.

very carefully
just think of how big you want to build the enclosure and build a frame out of cheap wood in whatever shape you desire. buy steel screen from a hardware store and secure it with wood staples or nails around the frame.
It's basically building a box. If you go with wire instead of plexiglass or glass, sandwich the wire between your wooden/steel frame. That way neither you nor your iguana gets cut on the frayed edges. Make sure the wire is strong enough to support the weight of your iguana, as some like to climb, and is shred resistant as their claws can do some pretty hefty damage to your materials. Plexiglass is cheaper than real glass, and is more durable, but scratches easier. If you need to conserve humidity then at least 2-3 sides need to be solid. Make sure to make a door with sturdy hinges, and a smaller door to throw in food if it becomes food aggressive. With a smaller door, you're at less risk of getting hurt, especially once the iguana gets big enough to do serious damage.
If you are going to build one yourself, it should be huge, about the size of a bathroom. They can be up to 6 ft long, and need room to run. Also, the cage should be glass, because metal wired cages like hamsters have are dangerous for iguanas and can confuse them. They will try to squeeze through the tinest little hole, and end up getting caught in there, and plus its not as nice to view in through the bars. You should not try to make your own cage because if one thing is wrong it can lead to disaster. You also cant use certain types of glues because they are extremely toxic. You should just buy a tank, its easier, safer. although it costs quite a bit of money, it can last you for years.
Depends on if the cage is outdoor or indoor. If It's outdoor, I recommend making the frame out of 1" pvc pipe or bigger. And cover it with wire mesh. You can use wire strapping to strap everything down. No nails, no hammering. All this can be found at the local Home Depot for cheap. and it's a lot lighter than wood, which makes it easier to transport. For the iguana to be comfortable it's got to be at least 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 8 feet long. Even if he's small, he'll grow into it very fast and this prevents you from having to build something else later. Add shelves towards the top for his comfort. If he's indoor, I recommend putting shelves 2 to 3 feet from the ceiling and hang his light above one of the shelves, he wont go anywhere. Trust me, it worked on mine and he is very happy. If this isn't desired, then the cage can be built for indoor use as well with his light hanging outside the cage and shining in so he can't touch it and possibly burn himself.
