I have 7 turtles as pets that i just recieved, any ideas for funny names for them?

Answers:
Michelle 1, Michelle 2 etc

Name them after your mates. use nicknames.

Call them whatever you like they won't understand or reply.

If you are into movies, You can name them from the movie "The Magnificent Seven" or for the matter why not from "Seven Samurai"

Well for starters, you could name some of them after the Ninja Turtles! As for the other 3..Timothy Traddle, Slow Poke, and Shelly:)

i have 2 water dragons, need to no what other type lizards i can keep together with them?

Answers:
Generally, it's better to keep species separate. Especially lizards. Lizards are not domesticated at all, so think back to how they would be in the wild. They never share territory with any other lizard species, they see them as either predators, prey or rivals for food, and space.
There are also heat, humidity, food and light to consider. Each species will have different habitat requirements that must be met for optimum health.
There are also sickness that could potentially pass back and forth, which is bad news.
Unless you are thinking of doing something on the scale of a zoo exhibit, with acres of land, waterfalls and everything, where you are recreating the ENTIRE habitat and it's inhabitants, then, keep the species in separate enclosures.

It is always best to keep lizards seperate from each other but in the right enclosure.preferably a very large one, i have kept chinese water dragons with other tropical lizards. Although not from Asia, as your water dragon is (unless it is the Austrailian species, but those are not as common), you can keep them with basilisk species as these have very similar requirements. They are all arboreal (climb trees).It would be a better idea to keep some species that are terrestrial ( live on the ground) if the cage has enough room..make sure the species is not too much larger or smaller since water dragons will eat smaller lizards. I have kept basilisks, sailfin dragons, and green iguanas with water dragons but all lizards are different and stress out easily, not to mention they can spead disease quickly to each other, so monitor them and dont take any chances stressing your pet to death!

I have 2 turtles - tiny flies in tank & all over home very clean tank- what r they & how 2 get rid of them?

What ARE they? They look like fruit flies and we have done EVERYTHING to get rid of them.the tank and water is all very clean..even cleaned out the fridge, nothing they keep coming! Did it come from the turtle tank ? We never had this until we got the turtles several weeks ago! We have even put vinegar soap and water out to get them but they wont go IN the bowls, just all around the top! HELP ME! My house is up for sale and showings coming up I cant have millions of flies! UGH!

~~~check the food you are giving them it can cause flies that happen to me i wonder where all these fly ws coming from but i was from teh food so chane it daily or every 6 hours.~~~

Sounds like fruit flies coming to the turtle tank either for the water o the fecal materials.

I'd put out fly traps and fly paper.

it doesnt sound like the turtles are causing the flies

I have 2 slider turtles, how do I need to setup their habitat?

They are classroom pets.
They are in a 20 gallon tank w/1/2 inch water %26 lamp for basking.

I have a slider as well, and they are aquatic turtles, so they need water to swim in. I have mine in a 40 gal horse trough (she is an adult) with about 12-16 in. of water. If you do put a large amount of water in the tank, you should have some kind of perch or basking spot they can climb up on so they can get out of the water. I use a piece of grapevine i bought at a pet shop, but they make turtle docks that suction to the side of the tank. They can develop shell problems if they do no bask. I hope this helps.

I think your best option would be to call your local pet store, or local council, they might be able to give you some good advice or even fax or email some details through to you.

I have a slider turtle as well and I just went to petco and asked for help-and they set everything up for me.

sounds like you are set up pretty good but do you have an area where they can climb out of the water and bask? you could put a brick or large flat rock in the aquarium so they can climb up on it

We also take ours out sometimes and let her crawl around on the tile floor and she loves to go for the dark spots to hide. She is very interactive. Once in awhile we will give her those little 12 cent fish from the pet store and she eats them right up once we put them in her tank. Quite the treat!

The 'rule' is 10 gallons of water* per inch of turtle. (*- note that this is the water pool size, not the tank size!). Since sliders quickly get to 4-6", plan ahead with a 50 gallon pond, either in a bigger glass aquarium, or in a big plastic tub or wading pool.

With the pond in place, the basics are:

HEATING: Heat the water to 75-80, thermostatically controlled. With a bigger tank, a few smaller heaters are better than one big one. Try to leave one end 'cooler'.

BASKING: Provide at least two, but as many as practical, basking sites- rock piles, driftwood logs, rafts, etc. all work fine as long as the turtles can climb on them, get totally dry, and not get hurt by the materials. Use an ocverhead heat lamp or something to make at least some of the basking spots about 90 degrees during the day.

LIGHTING: Turtles use light cues for many things, including hibernation and UV-B rays to create vitamin D in their skin. Sadly, UV lighting is tough to provide and does not penetrate most glass or plastic. Find and install a good reptile light or similar device to provide lighting and UV. The only things really necessary are plenty of clean water to swim in, a ramp so they can bask, and a UVA / UVB light so they can synthesize calcium. Other than that some fake plants and rocks are good so they can hide from kids taping on the glass. A really good filter will go a long way because sliders make a huge mess in the tank.

I have 2 corn snakes one bit the other while feeding.what med can i put on the bite that whant hurt my snake?

Answers:
Nothing. Just gently rinse it for several minutes with warm water. Then, see your reptile DVM in the morning to see if it needs anything else to prevent an abscess from developing.

WHAT were they doing in the same cage while being fed?!

A Veterinarian is right in her answer and i agree with it completely. The only thing i would add is to maybe put some betadine on the wound. I always like using saline solution to rinse any wounds on animals.
Never feed the snakes together..

they usually heal on their own! you should really feed them apart! believe it or not, one can accidentally swallow the other trying to eat the same food!!

Hi I know this is not an answer, but I wanted to ask you what do corn snakes eat and like how do you take care of them. I have been considering getting one but I am not sure if they make good pet's. Can you PLEASE answer my question! thanks

DO NOT use Betadine on a snake. Many snakes react very badly to iodine (which is in Betadine).

Believe the vet who has answered already.

The big problem you have to worry about is teeth. They have roughly a zillion little needle-sharp teeth, and they can get broken off under the skin. This applies to humans, too; I got nailed by an annoyed baby 'Glades the other day and had to dig a tooth out of my knuckle. It was like a cactus glochid -- I couldn't see it, it was so small, I just had to scrape for it. You don't want an abcess forming around a tooth like that, either in your snake or in your.

(go ahead and use the Betadine on humans!)

i have no clue so take it to the vet and next time separate them for feading because it could end up both snaks grabing the same bit of food and one will end up food for the other.

I have 2 aquaic turtles in a 20 gal tank but water get cloudy after a couple days after new water change.?

Answers:
I have 2 aquatic turtles in a 60 gallon tank and one day after a water change the water would be cloudy. I tried all the liquids and nothing worked..I finally broke down and bought another filter and it worked wonders. I use both filters in the water and it is great. The water is crystal clear now for at least a week and a half. I use Fluval Filters.they are the best, better than the filters made for aquatic turtles

Turtles need strong filtration- about 2 or even 3 times more than the same-sized fish tank would take. You can learn more about filtration ideas at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com. in the 'Articles' section.

You probably also have three other problems going on-

1. Overcrowding. Turtles need lots of room for proper exercise, stress reduction, cleanliness, etc. Aim for 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle. Thus, 2 2" turtles would need about 40 gallons of water- note that this does not mean a 40 gallon tank- but 40 gallons of water in a 60+ gallon tank. Most of us use big plastic tubs or kiddie pools for this.

2. Heat. Cloudy water is often a problem in tanks with cool water temps. Heat the water in the tank to about 75-80.

3. Diet. Often, the foods we feed add to the problem.

you need to get a big filter-you can buy it at like a fish store or at walmart. There are different sizes but you should buy a big one if the water gets dirty that fast.

They need a bigger space. I keep my two turtles in a large kiddy pool. Island in the center and a filter. I clean it about once a month.

i have 2 anoles and 1 of them i think is a male im not sure. look at description below for more info?

the 1 i believe is a male seems to have a mini dewflap. its much bigger than the other anole but yet its not way out like u see in pics. he is much bigger than the other one too and the store keeper said they were roughly the same age. i also cant pick him up and look u know where because hes really fast. can anyone help me out please.
Answers:
male anoles have a red piece of skin under its neck,and durning mating season they will display it by pushing it out fordward and display it for territory.you can also pinch it between two fingers and carefully pull down and see it

a male anole's dew flap is bigger and redder then a female's

You need to give a better description on how they each look. "Vaguely the same age" can mean a few years difference or a few months difference. You can't tell by age. Is one more brightly colored, do they have different colorations, what do they look like?

take it to a vet or something because usually it could be male and female mix. if it is bigger than the other that is a point for the male, if it has a small dewflap thats a point for the female.
